Synopsis:

For years, Captain Shmelly has been obsessively searching the oceans for the whale that took his leg. The isolation of the long search, hot sun and lots of rum has left Shmelly slightly insane, paranoid and delusional.

Project: Cap'n Shmelly and the sperm whale

I had the pleasure of working on this short film on site at Omen Studios in Singapore. Collaborated in defining the general look and feel by lighting key shots of the sequences. I also helped set up a workflow from lighting to compositing to maintain a consistant look and feel throughout the shots.

Some of the technical challenges were trying to define the look of hair and fur used, various specular highlights for characters and props as well as achieving a wet look for the whale's skin. I helped with creating a look for how the ocean looks in various key shots.
